Other - "Yes, because the glass looks amazing. The body looks ok/mediocre."

I voted "Other" also. I will eventually buy one, just not sure when that will be. Probably not in the next year. Probably not this version.

As a landscape stills shooter it looks like a winner especially with the three EOS R adapters. The people whom are complaining so much are mostly video bloggers and most haven't bothered to read Canon's white paper which clears up a lot of misconceptions.

What do you gain over the A7R3 with adapter. I've been using my Canon mount lenses on a A7R2 for landscape with no issues...bonus is the apps in the A7R2.

I just wasted a year waiting for this announcement. My 5DSR is good for stills. My 30 Canon lenses can do anything I want. I was just looking for a nice 4k video setup.

It looks like I will be considering a two system solution. Canon: please release a EOS R roadmap because your failures will end up costing long time Canon shooters some serious money moving into second systems without some clear guidance at this point.

I’m not a pro so I can live with 1 cars slot. If it had IBIS and priced at $2000 to compete with a7iii I would have seriously considered it.

When CanonDirect has a sale on refurbs in 12 or 18 months down the line I might buy one. Until then, I'll limp along with my 6D2, 6D, 80D and 77D. They all seem to do fine for me so no rush to fix what ain't broke.

Nah Canon doesn't deserve my money for this. The sensor is 2 years old. It only does 3 fps with continuous tracking AF. It costs $300 more than the Nikon Z6 and Sony A7III. Even though I don't shoot much video, the 4K has an ~ 1.8 crop. The slo-mo video is 720p. I could live with 1 card slot and even the lack of IS but I will not reward Canon with my money for delivering an underspec camera compared to it's competitors.

There is nothing wrong with the sensor. If it is indeed the 5D4's, it is more than capable for any kind of shooting, low ISO or even very high ISO.

Burst speeds and lack of a 2nd slot are the killers for me though.

They have already said there will likely be 2 other bodies to be announced. This was the 6D2 replacement. The next will likely be a 5D4/5DS replacement. Finally a flagship for the 1DX2 replacement.

This camera is not worth the money. The Nikon Z7 is the only release that somewhat interests me, but it seems I’m saving some money this year because of these lackluster offerings.

I’m using EF mount Sigma Art lenses with my A9, so the EOS-R will be a companion to my A9, and a gateway to that crazy 28-70/2 optic.

Yes, specially for the 28-70 lens, Canon color science and great ergonomics. I believe that they would come up with some stellar/exotic lenses in future.

I understand what you are getting at, but it's not a good sign if people need to read white papers to figure out why this camera could be /is a good buy.

I just bought a 5D mkIV, and a 24-70 mk II within the last 12 months, so no, not in the near future. It's a timing thing, though, so I suppose at some point I will buy a Canon mirrorless, and start purchasing R glass. The great thing is, I can gradually replace glass, since I can use my current EF lenses.

I loathe the control ring on the lenses and this in itself is enough for me to never buy into the system. I explained why, and set out my dislike of the camera's user interface, in this post in another thread.

I didn't mention it there, but depending on how it's implemented the focus-by-wire could really put me off. I know I'm not alone in that. I'm already seeing disparaging comments about it with the two new EF big whites, and there at least there is the payoff of reduced weight.

I voted "no, step up" because there is an outside chance I might buy an R-system body so I can do full frame video with my existing lenses. If I still have any by the time that need arises.

I've had the experience before of holding lenses from a first neglected, then orphaned system (OM film) and don't want to repeat it, so if my needs were not so specialised I would today be out looking at a Sony system. Unfortunately I have 5 specialist lenses not available in Sony mount yet, and I don't like adapters. And their f/4 wide and normal zooms suck, and some of the lenses have aperture rings.

Yeah - I'm in the same boat as you. I'm perfectly happy with my 6D and 450D.

It will take Canon another 1-2 generations to get the R even with the A7/3. By then I can buy the A7/3 for $1k, or less, or a butt kicking A7/5 for the price of a third gen R. Canon's lack of R&D will haunt them until they decide to get serious about innovating.

Other. It's just a 6D+ level body of no particular use. I'll wait for the good stuff, better bodies than the 5DsR and/or 5D IV. I'd always take the OVF over EVF if DLSRs are an option though.

I will probably get one (or the next model up) after they have been out for a while and decently priced used bodies show up on B&S. I'll probably start with adapted EF lenses, along with the revised 24-105L IS.

Delivered very nicely in some areas, failed miserably in some areas. Sad to see the usual Canon crippling. Really thought coming into a new segment where you are NOT the leader you would step up your game in certain key areas, but alas leopard finds it hard to change its spots. Even if this is a 6DII class camera more than 5D4, a few decisions are horrible and it’s just too dear. If they are going to offer 3 tiers of mirrorless, say, then this is more palatable, but they seriously need new sensor tech, much much faster AF, improved feature set, radical overhaul of lame video features and quality.

However, I do like the size of the camera, looks perfect, they have used high quality EVF and LCD, camera is well built and has the sealing expected at this level. The lenses look great but two of them are very expensive.

If I was rating this out of 10 then I’d say 6, I’d give it 7 if it were say $1800 which it should be based on features or there absence. I’d give the Z6/Z7 7.5.

What I hope to see announced by Photokina in May for say a 5D4 class camera to take on A7RIII/Z7:
All new BSI sensor, 36MP, no AA filter, 14EV+ DR, much faster sensor read-out, dual digic 8, IBIS, overhaul of video, uncropped and super 35 options for 4K, new codecs, get rid of mjpeg, zebras, peaking, 1080p @ 120fps, 720p @ 240fps, 7fps with tracking in servo, eye-AF in servo, more AF mode options, dual card, CFexpress, UHS-II, at least 10s RAW buffer, illuminated buttons, e-shutter in servo, improved weather sealing.

There is a lot to do to make this a class leader, and don’t forget it’ll probably face off against a Sony A7RIV, so these specs may be insufficient. Still if this was mid-tier and then they intended to replace 5DsII with mirrorless they could go further with that model. Alas we maybe looking at cameras far dearer than competition based on what we’ve just seen.
