Thanks Lance...
I should have labeled it (and will do so now)... this bird is a harris hawk.
Bald eagles are relatively "easy" to find throughout much of the US. Their abundance and tendency to go for floating fish and hunt near dams make them a popular target. On the other hand, Harris hawks are found in a semi-arid and sub tropical/dry brush habitat. They can be found in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas (no doubt I've missed a few states).
I managed to do some nice portraits of them, but this is definitely my favorite from my outing.

Thank you for the info.
I was viewing on my phone and was more interested in the detail and overall capture, which are great.
Now that I am viewing on my computer, I can see that it is more like our hawks/kites here in Australia, and less like an Eagle.
This was posted on the Z9 thread also, but I thought it important for this thread as it is very much about how good the 500 PF + 1.4x TCIII is.
The 500 + 1.4x TCIII makes for a great combo and *very* useable on the Z9. I think that any softness issues with the 500 pf + 1.4x TCIII on DSLR's may be down to slow or inaccurate AF. No such problems on the Z9.
Many have been cropped, some quite considerably. Some at very high ISO's up to 11400. All shot wide open at f8. All used Animal Eye AF which worked perfectly.

Got a few of some burrowing owls that live close to my house. I get to see these guys nearly every day but it can be rare to get lucky and catch them in flight.
Seems my 500 PF is failing, everything shot with it is soft and smudgy looking. With or without VR enabled. Has anyone else experienced this? I guess it goes to Nikon for service when I get home.
