I posted the full vertical of the Red-tailed hawk on the 300PF board because I was shooting with both cameras at the time. It is very rare for me to get close to this species, as they are quite wary in MN. However, during my trip to CA, I found this one individual who offered me a full 5 minutes to shoot with two different lenses.
This one is a much tighter portrait than what I shared in the other thread.
Image #2 is a rather pedestrian species for bird photographers, but snowy egrets do not visit MN. While we do get breeding great egrets, the little guys do not like our short growing season. I was taken by the dark and moody background. Couple this earthen environment with my perspective from a kayak, and the image was one that I just had to make.
Kayak view of Harbor Seals...
I feel like I could spend a lifetime photographing seals, sea lions, and otters as I find their faces and behaviors both expressive and captivating.
Some less than fantastic work from an early spring day in Minnesota...
For the record, the GGO was a very unexpected surprise. It is about 200 miles south of its southern range for my state. I am guessing that last week's heavy North winds sent it south for a few days.
