Nice one Jeff! Blue+yellow=green. Don't ask me how I learned that
I thought it would've taken a faster shutter speed to freeze the splash without motion blur. I gotta try this someday.
Thanks Ayas! I HOPE that it was in school!
Normally you are completely right, but I had the assistance of my good buddy Mr. Off-Camera Flash. This flash doesn't have all the frills, so no high shutter sync which means I'm limited to something like 1/200 or 1/250 before things get wonky. But in this case the extra light was enough to freeze the water without worrying about a faster shutter.
Ah yes, the ever elusive (for me) flash. Good to know. That's an area of photography I still have a lot to learn about. Thanks for explaining your process. It's good to know how these types of images are made.

No prob! If you're looking to open your game up and add some off-camera flash I would highly suggest checking out Strobist 101. Really awesome and engaging foundation with adding some extra light to your photos, either as key or fill.
Jeff, I was waiting for this one to reappear!!!! As soon as I saw the WA Subject I thought of your similar past post. It was yours correct? Great entry...
It has been raining here for days, weeks, well you know, your are in VA...and have many droplets but this is great!

Thanks for the comments, Dan! Yep I want to say it was for water in motion or something similar?
Yes sir, the mid-Atlantic has been getting DUMPED on in May!! I am over the dreary weather but at least it gives us some time to be creative inside. I had some other ideas for this assignment but they didn't materialize the way I wanted. Then thought about mixing colors and here we are. Sidenote: I'm glad no one was around to see me in front of the sink holding a dropper above my head while trying to time the capture properly.

Very nice one Jeff ! Did you use food coloring or gels ?
Birdie
Thanks Birdie! Just some food coloring and water. I had to use a lot more yellow in order to get the colors to properly mix. The blue was no problem and I want to say only a singe drop for perhaps an area of maybe 4x5" and very shallow.
The yellow was easily something like 15-20 drops. Unfortunately the straight food coloring was too dark. I then put that in a little pipette and would shoot a single drop of the yellow into the blue 'pool'. Took about 40 or so captures to get things how I wanted in terms of the colors mixing and drops formed.
