I guess I did get a good copy of the Sigma and bad of the Tamron. The Tamron at 2.8 was very soft compared to the Sigma. This was the first thing that stood out, then upon checking sharpness and corners, the Sigma kept taking the lead.

Very likely different sample qualities; the Tamron is far from being known as 'soft'.

Which does reinforce the need to actually test lenses upon receipt...

You have to send your lens to sigma and they make the modification (at a cost) for you.
