p.2 #1 · How to select height of a tripod?

The CT-3472 legs, without a center column or the Leveling Base weighs only 3.9 lbs. and going lighter than that means reducing load capacity or overall height.

The 3442 has a max height that is 5 inches less than the 3472 model but you do save 1.4 lbs. so a good choice if the height is OK.

Something to consider is that is using the tripod so support a telephoto lens to photography subjects that are above ground level and in a tree or up on a mountainside the height needs to be much greater to use the tripod without having to half crouch - very uncomfortable. This is why I ended up getting the 68" tall RRS TVC-34L tripod as well although it weighs an even heftier 4.7 lbs. and is the heaviest tripod I own.
