I like the composition and lighting, too. I'm not quite sure what's coming out of the pocket, though. Condom?

Thanks Keith, it took a bit of persuasion to get my wife to pose (she was blissfully falling asleep on a sofa in the other room) so I'm glad I didn't drag her into it for nothing.

Thanks.

A Wedding ring is going into the pocket. (I was a bit worried it wouldn't be very obvious but decided to go with it anyway)

How did you set the focus and DOF? I can never get back to the same place!

very nice indeed. the composition is fabulous and the DOF is great. pretty bold of you to ask your wife to pose for your study on infidelity.

edit to say i had no problem identifying the ring, great job!

Excellent shot. A very novel concept that really stands out among the current entries, and very creatively photographed.

You really created the scene with the overexposure and colour tint you chose here.

Bravo to you (self portrait?), and kudos to your wife for sacrificing her sleep for your art.

Oh, I didn't catch that.... Craig could you please talk a little about how you picked the exposure and color? What was the original shot like? Did you have to set up lights?

Outstanding, Craig! Nice use of that blue tone to add a little bit of edgy noir feel. Mike

I had my wife stand in roughly the spot where I would be so I could set the focus, then asked her to lie on the sofa where I took a few shots to get the right aperature. It was then a matter of setting the timer and running to where I thought I needed to stand. (like you I have trouble getting back to the same spot but an object placed just out of FOV helps with positioning )

Thanks for the kind words Damon.

Thanks Dave, and you are right it was a self-portrait. I owe my wife for this one methinks.

Sure thing. I have just the one Portaflash unit with a softbox but I much prefer to use available light as I am pretty poor with flash setups, so after a couple of test shots with the flash I stuck with the ambient lighting and the Modelling light from the flash unit. I used an 81B and AWB for the original shot which gave a very warm cast, but seeing it on screen I wasn't happy with it and felt that 'warm' didn't really fit with the topic. So I decided to give it an edgier, less 'cosy' feel by tinting it blue (using curves) and pushing the image into over-exposure (also using curves with some fine tuning from levels).

Thanks for the compliments Ray. I probably spent about an hour in Photoshop before I was happy with the image, for info the workflow was basically:

1) Adjusted colour balance using a Curves layer
2) Adjusted light by using both a Curves and a Level layer
3) Small amount of cropping to tighten up the scene

Cheers
Craig

The combination of titillating scene and cold light almost, no, not almost. It does make my skin crawl.

Well executed Craig- it bugs me so much I know it's a winner.
