It wasn't the evening I was hoping for at Bow Lake in Banff NP. However, the brief intermission from snowing all day had its own form of silent beauty.

lovely curves and lines. I have this thing about snow being white. It must be because I'm from NYC.

Really liking the shadows and detail in the foreground drift. Nice job including it - which takes a drab scene and brings it to light. My only nit would be to look at (what seems to be) some haloing along the top of the left side drift. Otherwise, I like the mood of this one.

This is real nice, Dave. Well composed and beautifully processed. I wish we had some real winter conditions like this down in CA.

Very nice image - for me it is a lovely balance to what, to my eye, are often too highly saturated landscapes - some gentle relaxing , but effective, monochrome - thank you.

Beautiful scene and image, Dave. I agree with Morris. Snow needs to be a little whiter even in overcast conditions. Sometimes that is the challenge.

Thanks for all the comments/suggestions. As for the snow color (or lack of since this is B/W) all I can say is that the snow does not look all that white during the blue hour after sunset.

Nice. Foreground forms, middle ground and peak have a presence.

I do't know that I like the halo at the top of the foreground snow pillow. Maybe you were looking for some separation from the snow forms and the lake. I'm sure you'll find a tasteful way to pull that off. In a larger version I would want to be sure there was texture in the lake. Hard to see in this rendering.

Sharpening at this size and on the web looks good.

It would be easy to go over the top with an image like this. You've done a very nice job keeping subdued feeling of light in the picture.

Thanks again for all the comments/suggestions. They are all appreciated! I'd have to say snow is one of those subjects where light rules and it's hard to make up for its not accommodating. As for the halo at the top of the snow pillow in foreground - thanks Claude/Todd for pointing this out. I think my eyes on final review must have thought it was part of the gradient in background. Argh! Frustrating because like erasing the crispies out of skylines this is such an easy fix.

This is a nice picture. Its always tough when you get bad light. Without the foreground interest this would not be very interesting . And you made the best of it. Good job. Scott [ a little too sharpened for my taste though]

btw - I don't like it when someone from afar does better than me in my home field in challenging conditions
