Quite a few shots from this year's Ballet Chicago Nutcracker. Shot it this year with a Nikon D5 and 70-200 f/2.8 lens, always wide open. The rehearsal shots were shot with my 24-70 f/2.8. ISO ranged from 1250 to up to 10,000 on some shots. I found that the D5's ability to shoot at a higher ISO gave me a faster shutter speed, which helps immensely in these shoots.
Rehearsal shots. The one time I get to shoot from the wings. I like doing that, as while I know the choreography like I know the back of my camera, you never really know what to expect from the dancers when you're shooting sometimes just two feet away from them.
Awesome access (I'm green with envy, Ron) and your excellent-as-usual timely and professional shutter presses. I can't help but marvel at the colors, sharpness, and composition of these images. The mice are my favorites. The dancer in #6 loves the camera.
I found the background lighting in the first few rather intrusive. I expect you had no control over lighting, however. Work with what you get, eh? Love #11 - awesome group shot.
Great pictures, Ron. You capture the dancers at the perfect moment. My favorite is always the Snow Scene, but the little mice always capture the heart. I love to see your work. It is always beautiful.

Excellent set Ron. I think the addition of rehearsal shots gives the set a much more intimate feel. Definitely tells a bigger story.
Thanks for sharing.
