While living in SC now, often times when I tell people I'm from NY they immediately think of skyscrapers and the hustle and bustle of big city life in the big apple.
This is the NY I called home for my entire life until I moved south many years ago.
This scene is from Letchworth SP located in the finger lake region of NY, which was only a short 25 minute drive from my home at the time.
This image was captured at a location called Big Bend Overlook which has been referred to by many locals as the Grand Canyon of the East. This place in particular has very sentimental meaning to me personally for reasons I can not share here, however I can say my parents both enjoyed taking long walks here and other nearby trails in the park.
The first morning I attempted to capture this scene, I got skunked with a boring solid blue sky. I was determined to come home with a wall hanger from this place once and forall, so I got up again the next morning at 3:30am to try it one more time before I had to return home to SC the next day.
Letchworth SP was a routine visit when I lived back east. Loved its canyon and amazing waterfalls! This is a great comp and capture! Nice work on framing the stone fence in this. Dave

The shot makes me want to go there....maybe not at 3:30AM.
What's it like in February?
Well done, sir!
Regards.....Pete
Thanks Pete!
It's cold and snowy in February. Which is why I live in SC now.

Wow! Thank you Ben! Glad you enjoyed seeing it.
It's probably as close to your type of landscapes you guys have out west as we can get out here on the east coast.

Thanks for the kind words Dave! It is a beautiful park and I have several other images of the falls I still need to get to.
I don't think any of them will turn out as nice as this image but I'm hopeful.
WOW beautiful image Dave I also am a native of upstate NY and always have to explain to folks "No Not NYC". Letchworh is just one of our favorite spots.

Thanks! It is funny how we all do this. When someone tells me they're from California I immediately think of palm trees and sunny beaches packed full of hot chicks. But I know it's not all like that.

Beautiful image. Brought back memories. Lived in Castile, N.Y. as a boy.
Thanks for the kind words Don! We were neighbors practically, except you could just walk to the park.

Great Image. Rivals Horseshoe Bend IMO
Thanks Paul! I'm not sure it rivals it in grandeur, but this beautiful place does makes up for it with color and vegetation I think.
I can't find a direct reference to the 19th century painting associated with John Fenimore Cooper that showed a man looking out over the promised land of Kentucky. It is the lustrous, idyllic, hauntingly beautiful myth of the great American west as paradise to be seized. Your image captures that old painting's cachet perfectly. Nice.
