Aside from the esthetics, one thing I learned from this shoot is how soft the Nikon 35 f/2 is on the D810. I had been using it for years on occasion when needed a fast lens for low light work, but in such shots I never looked at the corners as much as in the shots here with the dancer.
I've since parted with the 35 f/2 and was lucky to find a month-old 35 f/1.8G that is in new condition. I did some quick tests and can tell you the comparison is night and day. Not only is the center sharper, but the corners are soooo much better on the G lens.
I love shooting dancers in my personal work, and I think anyone that has understands that capturing them at the perfect moment is actually quite challenging even with professionally trained dancers.
I think the things I love about the woman is that her face is tranquil, her hands show are well articulated, and the general composition of the image. The red vs blue color scheme is also well done - not sure if that was intentional or a happy accident.
Yes, red against blue was intentional, the dancer was able to borrow a red tunic and I bought the veil
