Shooting Landscape ... which version of landscape are you shooting?
If you are asking about the sensor difference for maximum DR and maximum shadow lifting ... the 80D wins that battle.
If you are asking about the difference in UWA glass options, the FF wins that that battle.
Also, UWA is not necessarily the mark of "landscape", nor is max DR (although, it seem very en vogue in certain circles) ... so, depending on what constitutes your "landscape" use, that may give some insight to which is the route for you.
A better understanding of your "landscape" requirements might help folks give you a more clear recommendation assistance.
If you read the post again, the goal isn't landscape, it is a secondary item. The fear was that if an 80d is purchased to replace the 40d to shoot action and kids and sports, that it might be good enough to also do landscapes that the 5d2 never gets used.
Yes, the landscape was noted as "secondary" ... which adds to the prospect of whether or not the UWA glass addition would be factored in to the overall budget of 80D + (good) APS-C UWA glass starts getting you close to the price of 5D3 or 6D2 territory.
I think that with the family snaps aspect in play, the 6D2 performs very well at native (higher than 400) ISO and will afford a more liberating shooting experience to just set it on "P" (or other) with Auto ISO and fire away. It also has facial focus recognition (not a thing for me, but I did experience it working on one outing with it).
I mostly meant that if you are going to use landscape as the reason for +/- on a camera, just be sure to understand what you mean by "landscape" ... as that term covers a pretty broad area.

If I used the 80D for landscape it would be with my 17-55. I understand your point about the type of landscape photography, but at this life-stage, I take what I can get. If I can get a nice foreground with good morning and evening light awesome....not usually the case. So it will be a mix of whatever I can get while on vacation and other opportune times. I typically do take gradient density filters with me, but don't use them much more due to opportunity.
If I decided to shell out the extra 1K or so for a 5DIII or 6DII for a one camera fits all, which would it be....the AF on both would both be more than enough for my action shots, although facial recognition could be useful if it works. There are lots of times a tilt screen would come in nice for close to the ground landscape shots in my experience.
