I haven't posted in quite a while, but I've been shooting a fair amount. I spent the weekend at a rented beach house with a couple of other families and it was a great time. I figured I'd poke my head in and say hi. I'm always open to suggestions, but I also realize my length and format doesn't lend itself to commenting very well, so I'm perfectly happy with simple statements like -- you stink ... or you rule ;-) My goal when shooting, is simply to tell the story of our visit without having to use words - if that makes any sense.
Great set of photos and well done. The only critique I would give is on the star shots. You should use the appropriate ISO to keep your exposure time down and avoid star trails or oblong stars. A simple formula is to divide 500 by the focal length you are shooting at. That will give you the maximum exposure time to avoid star trails. Example - If you're shooting at 20mm, the 500 / 20 = 25 seconds maximum exposure time. You need to adjust your ISO so that your exposure is no more than 25 seconds. Make sense?
You rule! You provided quite the immersive viewing experience.
Only weird thing I noticed was the sky in the first half of the set. Appeared to be shot by the beach, midday. The sky appears gray. I don't know for sure if that is a product of exposure or editing or both, but the sky should not be gray unless the sky is in a compelling state of disquietude.
Well, to clarify, they're not gray gray gray, but they're on the dark side, and the brightness/saturation is better in several frames than others. Really nitpicking though.
Having been going through lots of old family photos in the last couple months, I can tell you that these are really wonderful and will provide some of the best memories years from now. Very well done.
Thanks again, y'all. I think I see what you are are talking about Oscar. On the second day, I was using a polarizer, which is pretty rare for me. So maybe that helped with the color in later skies?
