I have not decided to sell mine just yet. I am tempted because I am frustrated trying to mount the lense+camera to my monopod for nature type images. If I find a good way to support it I will probably keep it. If I sell it I will be buying a 100-400G. My wife has one that she will not share It is quite good and AF is a big plus with nature work that often involves motion.
leitax adapter. A little on the costly side, but works well, gives you a usable tripod support at the cost of some finger space on the grip.

Charlie, thank you for the information. I will look up the Leitax adapter with tripod support.

Has anyone used the Novoflex Contax to Sony adapter in combination with the Novoflex ASTAT-NEX Tripod Collar? Can it hold the weight of the Contax 100-300 well?

I guess unless someone has already owned a Contax Zeiss 100-300mm for many years, it wouldn’t be worth the risk and efforts for regluing the rear element and fixing the hazy problem. No good buying a new used one with hazy.
Here’s a link about regluing the rear element: http://lens-cla.blogspot.com/2014/07/contax-carl-zeiss-vario-sonnar-100.html

Hm.
Warning!
I would not recommend to try this yourself. Although it could be possible to disassemble the rear element, it is not that easy to reglue them. ZEISS used different sorts of glass material for these elements those days. They got the glass from Schott, who made the blanks for them, and refractive indices of the glass used was not constant over the series.
They used DIFFERENT glues for different sorts of glass, the refractive index of the glue itself was not constant.
You need to have the exact same type of glue to reassemble the element.

The cement is so thin I would not expect varying refractive indices even if we consider a difference as big as double or half the original index to have an appreciable effect.
There is most likely a difference of 0.01-0.1 in the refractive index between all lens cements ever used.
That said, optical performance will likely be theoretically best (primarily with regard to contrast) if you had a cement that best matched the refractive indices of the elements bring bonded, to minimise fresnel reflections. These problems are far more likely to be visible in laser systems or extremely precise lab conditions than a photographic lens.

I bought a mint copy of the Contax 100-300, in original box and everything. Looks like a brand new lens (so without any problems with the rear element and such).
HOWEVER, my typical "luck" again: optically there's something very wrong with it. The left side of photos is completely blurry. I've never seen it this extreme in any lens I've ever owned. So it's going back to the seller.
I'm a bit sad about this because from the things that aren't blurred I can tell it has really nice rendering.
