Great set of images - the clarity ; sharpness and story telling aspects of the photos are outstanding . I have never seen a loon but from these images I now have a feel of their behavior

While every one of these are great loon images that illustrates the beauty, form and behavior of loons, picture number 1 is nature art. The peak-a-boo chick is a masterful image. Your choice in composition is so captivating...
Nothing but envy, jealousy and admiration here, bravo!

Thanks Bruce. The peak-a-boo images were the last images I took. I'd shot all the regular stuff like feeding and then the chick tucked into the wing. Most of the time I could only see the tip of the beak so I kept the lens trained on it till it finally poked its head out....the DOF was so shallow that only a couple in a burst of 20 had the focus on the chick.

What a set! The 4th one feeding the chick on the parent's back is sublime.
I just wish the first one had a tad more DOF but little else to critique.
Thanks Mike. I was challenged with DOF because it was heavy overcast, light rain and I needed some SS to handhold from the kayak and didn't want the ISO too high as I've found the greens to really show noise even on the 1DX2....you can already see it in the backgrounds of some of these at only 1600ISO. Hoping that next time I'll have a bit more light so I can stop down even more for the parent chick interactions where f/16 would have been nice.
