Question for anyone using M mount lenses, what adapter are you using? I have the 7artisans adapter and while it works (and seems to have the registration distance correct unlike my P645 adapters) it has a fair amount of play on the GF mount side as well as the M mount side. The play is side to side not just rotational and is enough to change vignetting from side to side.

Are any of the other M mount adapters better in this regard?

I've used the Kipon adapter. No problems with the adapter, but the 90 ASPH 'cron doesn't cover.

I have the Novoflex adapter, but none of my Leica M mount lenses cover the whole 44 X 33 sensor. They all need to be cropped and by quite a bit. You basically are using just a slightly larger sensor with the Fuji cameras. It does let you use 4 X 3 aspect ratio, however.

I have the 7 artisans one and there's no issue with play on mine. I use it the 50mm Summilux ASPH and I'm happy with the results (I've sort of given up on talking about sensor coverage now).

Thanks, might try the Kipon.

I have a number of M mount (or LTM) lenses that cover, just looking to get an adapter with less play.

It seems to vintage simpler designs (Tessar/Sonnar) glass has more coverage compared to my more current lenses which have hard vignetting across the board.

Elmars 50/3.5 and 2.8 cover but will mechanically vignette if stopped down too far.
Nikkor-P 10.5cm f2.5
Rollei 40mm f2.8 Sonnar HFT
MS Optics Sonnetar 73/1.5
Nippon Kogaku Nikkor-HC 5cm f2
Jupiter 8 f2
The above all cover (@infinity) but might have correctable vignetting wide open that improves stopped down.
Canon 50mm f1.5 has a tiny touch of hard vignetting that improves stopped down

Hi Shawn,

I am also using the Novoflex adapter with a number of Nikkor LTM lenses including the ones you have above. Am using the Rayqual LTM to M to mount those to the Novoflex. No issues with movement/play in those combinations.

Hi George,

Thanks, what other Nikkor LTM lenses do you use with the GFX?

Thanks,

Shawn

Did anyone try the Leica M 24f3.8, M 35f2.4 and M 50f2.4 via adapter on the Fuji GFX? Image circle / sensor coverage? I only tried the M 75f2 asph which covers 4433 pretty well.

Shawn,

My favorite is the 8.5cm f/2. Correctable vignette in post. But a lot of time I leave it because I like the character of the image.

I also use the 13.5cm/3.5 from time to time, but does require cropping. I have them for use on a Leica Monochrom, but hey, if you have them, shoot them adapted to the Fuji, right?

My kit is now complete.

The Samyang XP/Rokinon SP primes are the best for my needs.

The 35, 50, and 85 1.2 all cover the sensor well for video and stills, sharp WO, beautiful bokeh, low aberrations, good contrast, decent MFD, and acceptable breathing.

I have the Sigma 14-24 2.8 to cover UWA, but will replace it with the 20-35 native when it comes out, and then I'll be done done.

kek, I'm positive Fuji will lure me back in 3 years, but until then I'm super happy with this setup for virtual production in Unreal Engine.

Finally at the point where real-time parallax, lighting adjustments, and illusion of motion can be setup on digital background side without costing an inheritance, and 1st ACs won't be crying at an effective f/0.95 anymore.

Okay, I'll probably get the GF TS lens too but after that I'm really done.

Just an update on adapters. I bought a used Novoflex Leica M to GFX adapter. It solved the play issues I was having with the 7artisans adapter, however the Novoflex adapter is too thin. With my lenses at infinity they are out of focus, I have to focus back slightly to get infinity in focus. Verified visually and with a dual camera collimator setup. The 7Artisans adapter is correct at infinity. Not sure if the Novoflex adapter can be shimmed out. I did that with a couple of other adapters.

All adapters are designed to let manual focus lenses focus past infinity in order to guarantee infinity focus.

Nope, I have had plenty that are accurate from cheap ones to the Voigtlander close focus adapter. Any adapter that is designed short will screw up performance of a crc lens and will likely screw up the focus of a zoom lens in that it will need to be refocused when zoomed. With infinity locks on some Leica lenses a short adapter is extra annoying.

Novoflex specifically states: “This adapter has exact compensation for the flange focal length distance between the two mounts”

You can’t be short and also have exact compensation.

On the backside of my Novoflex M to G-mount adapter instructions it says:

Note: The distances set on the lens are slightly shorter when using the adapter than when used on the original camera. E.g. sharp depiction of a distant object is achieved immediately before the mechanical infinity stop on the adjusting dial. This is for technical reasons and is not a fault.

Note the Leica lens hits infinity when adapted much sooner than the CV, but on my M10-R/M10M they both hit infinity at the hard stop:

Adapted-infinity @ f/2 on the 28 Summicron

Adapted-infinity @ f/2 on the CV 50 APO

Then they don’t have exact compensation. The 7artisans adapter hits infinity where it is supposed to. Being intentionally short will hurt performance of any lenses that have a floating element in it and make focusing all the others more annoying.

Then you will very likely run into a situation with that adapter where it will be too long for a given lens.

Due to the thickness of the GFX cover glass, you will never get acceptable edge performance at infinity with a normal to wide M lens anyway, even in 35mm crop mode.
