Well, Tiff files do have a 4 gb file size limit, and that does seem to be the limit for Windows 7. You can also use Zip compression to further reduce tiff file size. But really, when you need to go over 4 gb, you need to use psb - Photohsop Large Document Format. You want to make gigantic files and prints, you pretty much need to suck it up and use the right tool for the job.

The Ps/Lr package is so inexpensive that there's no real reason not to. If Ps is the best tool, and that's the only way to get it now, then that's what you do. Just consider it the same as you cell phone, internet and cable tv world.
