The eagles failed at rebuilding their nest in town and are now nesting on their old nest on a manmade structure which sucks for photography. So I've resorted to visiting this other nest which requires a 20min drive and then 20min hike....sacrifices....
They seem to be sitting on eggs which I was unable to visualize. Chicks should hatch soon as last year we saw them on May 5th....although this year may be a little behind...
I feel your pain Geoff... 40 minutes for a ho-hum opportunity like this is a HUGE sacrifice.
The size of the nest is ridiculous, thanks for posting it so we can see how big it is. Of course all of the Eagle images are terrific.
Excellent work... I hope you're willing to sacrifice some more so we can share in their progress this year.
Great lighting (good job on that). But I also guess you get a preponderance of overcast days up there?
They sure are conditioned to you (the one staying into the lens).
Wonder how many years they have been adding to that nest. That's a beauty. Beginning to take on the likes of the "Great Nest" (I think in old Ohio?) in Arthur Cleveland Bent's Life History's of North American Birds. It finally collapsed.
On the 20 minutes walk: Looking back on my life's outings, it seems the quality of the results I get is often directly related to my efforts. Not always and just saying
Please keep us posted. I know I will be looking for this story more.
Thanks Pius

Thanks Kirk...yes a big sacrifice for me....compared to walking out my backdoor and hiking for 15mins to get to the other nest....still I won't complain!! The size of that nest is even more impressive when you see how much of it is on the ground. I think 2 years ago most of it fell over but already it is back to full size.

Nice to see that you are back to whitehorse. Just in time for spring.
I hope the earthquake did not have an effect on you or your friends.
Nice picture - It makes me want to go to Whitehorse -one of my favourite locations.
Scott
Thanks Scott. It was the strongest earthquake I've ever felt but in the end didn't amount to any damage. One building in town was shut down as it did crack its walls.

Thanks Birdie. Luckily none of my camera gear rolled off the bed it is all lying on so overall the earthquake wasn't too bad.
