Sunday at about noon, just as the fighting oystercatchers were breaking up a huge flock of sandpipers approached from the distance. At first they looked like a cloud and as they came closer it was clear it was sandpipers, lots of them. After they landed I took an assortment of photos showing the enviroment, the size of the flock and then moved in close and waited for someone to walk along and send them into the air. Apparently there were 3 separate colonies flying together, the largest was least sandpipers and there were also sanderlings and dunlin.
Wow - that's more than I've ever seen in one place. You did a great job of capturing this large group with a good variety of views. #6 and #10 would be my picks of this excellent group.
