I watched these Western and Clark’s grebes for 1 month+ to understand their breeding rituals, nesting activities and chicks. Two grebes engage in a courtship dance called "rushing," in which the birds walk on water. If I think dating is hard, be glad I’m not a grebe. They have high standards when it comes to attracting and keeping a mate. If either a male or female grebe can't walk on water, they're out of luck. When they found the other half, they mate and build the nest together. This pair has 3 eggs and all of them survived. Happily Ever After
I hate you!
Another great set of these birds, and I'm sure you're holding back on some of the really good courtship stuff. Pictures of my dreams!
Another productive year.
The lakes in Western Canada where they breed are still frozen!

Superb series Thao. I really like how low you got for some of these shots, these are shots that a lot of us will never get the opportunity of shooting, very well done.
Great set of shots. Your following them from courtship to parenting 3 chicks makes the images much more interesting. The shots with the chicks riding on her back are really nice. Excellent set!!
