Very nice shot! Looks like that sensor is quite good for low light. My Sony at those settings would be pretty noisy in that water area and shadows. Would you mind sharing your general PP process with this shot? Single shot? Noise reduction? Thanks in advance!
Lovely shot, beautifully realized. I'm surprised however, at the ISO setting of 8000. More typical for shots like this would have been something around 3200. Wondering why you went so high? Also, is this a single exposure or did you stack? If you are stacking exposures for noise reduction I might suggest StarryLandscapeStacker, which is an exceptionally good app and very easy to use.
I don't know much about astrophotography (great shot BTW!) but for astro-planning I use Sky Guide on my phone. It's pretty awesome, lets you enter in auto-location (GPS) or manual location (LAT/LONG or pointing on a satellite map overlay), you can fast-forward time to see how the milky way will look in the sky in relation to your location and position (calibrates to move the sky as you turn around).
Aka -- it's pretty damn awesome, even just to mess around. Also gives you notifications about upcoming meteor showers, etc.
Great framing! I really like what the light pollution adds to this shot.
I recently got PhotoPills. Still planning for an astro shoot to try out a new lens. What does Photographer's Ephemeris add that PhotoPills doesn't have?
