I thought that was reset when you replaced the battery, or card? I know there is nothing out there for a 5D4 and Mac right now. EOS Inspector only worked on my 5D3.

I just checked mine 28,000 since I got it on May 5th ... Its like I barely use it!!
I do like this feature as I had to buy an app to count the clix on my spare 7D2 before selling it.
Thanks for this

And all those apps don't work with the newer bodies anyways.....so now there is no way to get a count (maybe sending it to Canon would be the only way) on 5DS/R, 80D(I think) and 5D4 as I recall.
From the release notes on the ShutterCount program for Macs......
Always wondered why canon was so secretive about shutter count. Why can't they display this information somewhere in the menus, gives them extra service when people realize they need their shutter replaced or cleaned anyways.

While the shutter count can be useful when making a used camera purchasing decision, there are many factors to consider. I count much more negatively - a camera with serious wear, scuff marks or scratches - than one with a high shutter count.
Apparently there are a couple of firmware hacking tools out there that can be used to reprogram to whatever value you want, the memory address that contains the shutter count on a Canon or Nikon camera. So... take those shutter counts with a grain of salt, because maybe even Canon doesn't know for sure.
Tried a different memory card, still the same file count. Reset it and its now at 0000. I don't think it's connected to the number of photos taken on the memory card?
And I don't think it's connected to the shutter actuations of the 1DX2 because it says in the menu <1000, which makes sense as it's a new camera.
I genuinely have no idea what the file count in the small lcd screen relates to.

I've recently purchased a new 1DX2 and on the small LCD it reads: file 9210. When I go into the menu system 'release cycles' are <1000
What's the difference between the two?
The file number is irrelevant. Trust the menu system. There have been written articles on how to get the file number start from basically any number you want, other than zero. That won't affect the actual in-camera counter. If the in-camera counter says <1000, then your camera has less than 1000 exposures, guaranteed.
The ShutterCount App on my iphone works great for reading actuations on 5d4. I think it's a paid for App but only a few $.
