this is great, and i could stare at this for hours! Tons of details! I really like the left edge, because the tree is glowing. it is well balanced and executed beautifully.
Wow! One of the few star trail shots that I really like. The ultra-wide pano with diverging star trails really make this. Definitely has a sci-fi wormhole look to it! Dave
I really like the end result even if the foreground is a touch bright and the light pollution reflecting off the sky throws off the balance in the sky. What really gets me so is how you managed to pull of the processing. I always though a star trail pano would be impossible because you could only photograph one panel at a time, just the time it takes to shift your camera 15-30 degrees on the tripod would be enough to cause gaps in between the star trails. How did you do it?! a 4 frame star trail pano with no star gaps...with only 1 camera. Ive been dreaming to do a shot like this but the only way I can think you be to ..
1. Find your spot and time in wish you want to start
2. Plate solve a test image and then use some form of a timing calculate to determine exactly when to start exposing each panel (probably 30 seconds to a few minutes difference per night)
3. Plan on being there in that EXACT location (maybe even leaving your tripod set up) for as many consecutive nights as you will have panels.
4. Pray to god the weather works in your favor
Is there an easier way?? because this is just way too much time and effort for something that I will most like botch 5-6 times before getting it right.
Personally I really like this image. Its got a real personality, unlike the majority of frankly quite boring "stitched milky way panos" that have bedevelled night photography in recent years. Your image is very creative and distinctive. Really enjoyed seeing it. Do 10 more like this and you will have your own definite style, and that is something very much missing from modern night photography IMHO.
This is just excellent. Very creative and well executed. Love that you chose not to do complete circular star trails as is the norm, but went with something unique. It really does remind me of Van Gogh!
