I typically use between 6-8 flashes with remote triggers.
Matt
ohh man... 6-8 flashes you must have owned that place... I use one flash (sometimes) and that almost always annoy the fellow birders around me
It's a bit different as the flashes are surrounding the hummingbirds flower, and not using something like a better beam throwing the flash out into the forest. I also go down there in May so there are not a lot of birders there as they prefer the winter months. We typically have the lodges to ourselves, which makes everything easier.

What a wonderful set, Matt! Makes me want to go on a photography tour to Ecuador some day. Well, maybe next year.
Thank you. It is a bit addictive. I've have a couple join me 3 years in a row now. I love being down there and listening and watching the colorful birds.
