Storm was approaching quickly. I set up the shot to frame the dock against the approaching storm and was very lucky to get this on my first exposure. I stayed for another half hour but didn't get anything else.
This is amazing. Were you using a lightning trigger? This is what I was hoping when I tried to shoot a storm last week and got barely anything interesting. This is awesome!

Thanks David. Ya, a couple strikes were a little too close for comfort

No Lightning Trigger, just long exposure.

Beautiful pic Corey. Do you have technical info as I like to see how you captured scene?
I updated the exif for the photo. Usually I shoot lightning photos much like flash photography. Use my shutter to control the ambient light. Use my aperture to control the flash/lightning intensity and keep iso low. If the strikes are very bright, and closer to me then I will usually close the aperture to say F6.7 or F8. I adjust the shutter speed to keep the ambient light right so as it gets darker and darker, I go for longer shutters. If you get a storm that has multiple strikes very quickly you might have to go back to a shorter shutter duration so you don't double expose the shot. I had a few that night and it wrecks havok on the clouds and water. ISO I have always left at 100. Then just sit there and use a timer mode so you get multiple shots while you drink your coffee
Killer strike Corey. You REALLY got lucky with that one. I got lucky about a week here. Like you was prepared and just "hoping" for a nice strike. Must be Canadian luck! ha!
