p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Frosty Morning in the Meadow

We took a quick overnight trip into the Uinta Mountains on Saturday and were rewarded with a nice sunrise. The hike itself was moderate gaining 2k of elevation in about 5.5 miles and lead to this large meadow below Ostler Peak. We had prepared well for the 85 degree hike up but were not 100% ready for the sub 30s we woke up to. However the pink skies just before sunrise made up for cold temperatures.

Any and all C/C is appreciated.

Nicely done. It looks like a good spot for a bath.

Thanks Dale! There was actually a moose in this exact spot the evening before taking a quick dip while eating some of the fresh grass. I had to pass on the dip though - just too cold!

Wonderful capture.
So how heavy was your pack?

Very nice, I love all the cool repeated shapes and lines in this one. Looks like a great place for a quick overnighter.

Thanks David! In total I would say my pack was around 30lbs including my camera gear. Kept it lighter by having the dog carry her own food up!

Thanks for the feedback Heron - The Uinta Mountains in general are a great and close place to get away to from the Salt Lake City area.

My biggest challenge was balancing this image out. The pink sky reflected down onto the frosted grass which left the whole image a rather pink hue. I was also hoping the viewer saw how the warmer (still cold) water of the stream kept the very nearby grass without frost and green.

My wife and I overnighted there last July and got eaten alive by mosquitos! Lovely photo. It's a great area, the accessibility from SLC makes me visit frequently when I'm tired of battling the Wasatch crowds.

Thanks Keith - It's a great spot to watch the sunrise and probably see a moose

The bugs weren't bad at all now - I have heard the stories like yours though very frequently. Have you been to any other areas on the Uinta's? We just moved here in June and are always looking for new great places.

I've done a little backpacking around and a bunch of day fishing trips. Most of my big multi day trips are to the wind rivers or Sierra when I lived in CA. Feel free to PM me for info on anything in the area, we have been here since 2008 and are still finding new things to do.
