Well that is just narrow minded thinking. I have the sigma 20mm f/1.4 art, 35mm art, 50mm art, and just recently the 85mm art. I also have the 105mm f/1.4 nikkor. However the Sigma 35, 50, & 85mm lenses are noticeably sharper than Nikon's line up. Heck, the 85mm art has now been named the sharpest lens made to this day. Granted I know there is more to any lens besides sharpness, but these sigma lenses are superb. I've compared them to the Nikon equivalent and Sigma always wins in the image quality department and the best part, they cost much less!
You should give Sigma a chance. I like to use mine for astrophotography and portraits and the only Nikon lenses that produce near perfect star points (almost no coma) at the edge of the frame are the Nikkors 58mm and 105mm. The rest do not, however Sigma does a better job at edge sharpness. That 85mm is insane...I like it just as much or more than my Nikon 105mm f/1.4 E.
Anyway I admire your commitment to Nikon, but most of the time Sigma and Zeiss have them beat. I think I'm almost all Sigma now. But when posting images online, like this forum, it doesn't matter what lens is used because the image is to small to tell the difference in quality. I'm not trying to bash Nikon, I've been a Nikon user for 30+ years. I'm constantly selling/trading lenses and I always seem to gravitate towards Sigma. I only have one AF Nikon lens, several manual focus ones. So, I just wanted to share my experience with Sigma. Please use what lenses make you happy. I like the idea of a Sigma 135mm f/1.8! That sounds sweet. I have the Zeiss apo 135mm f/2, I'd like to compare the sigma to that one.
You didn't even let me elaborate on why I stick with Nikon...
My biggest issue? AF. I'd rather present 500 in focus images as opposed to 100 sharp images to my client.
There's a lot more to it than just AF but that's my biggest concern.
Also, drop my 58G and drop your 50A on a concrete.
That sigma will put a nice dent while my 58G will just bounce off
As de monkey would always say, "...just saying'..."

Sorry you had a lame experience. I know the "non art" line had issues, but the art doesn't. My Nikon D800 had issues with Sigma, but that was a Nikon issue. That D800 body even had issues with Nikon flashes, the IR red af indicator on the flash didn't even provide correct focus for Nikon lines and Nikon didn't even bother fixing it. So if you have a D800, that is your problem, the body doesn't do well with Sigma. My D810 works perfectly with Sigma. Enjoy your Nikon!

I doubt it. Plastic will break, lens elements will shift. You won't be able to thread on a filter anymore. Will your 105mm f/1.4E bounce off....uh, No! You drop anything and it will break.
Anyway, just use what you have and get out and shoot. I no longer want to argue or stoop to lower levels.

Peace out!✌️
I'm actually excited to start a wedding season with just 4 primes. Definitely looking forward to using the 105E more this year.
I got rid of the 70-200VRII for like the 4th time and probably for the last time. The 105E will be used far more now.
FWIW, I got rid of half of my lenses... 8 was too much. Couldn't concentrate during a wedding. 4 primes should do it.

It's a debatable issue. I've shot side by side both the 105 E and the 50 A.
I will check the files later and let you know how many shots missed for each lens.
I had a look and the results are a bit strange and inconclusive.
There seems to be more missed shots with the 105 E than the 50 A.
I was shooting with an 810 + 50 A and a D5 + 105 E
I think it was operator fatigue and I was taking more shots with the 810 + 50 A
The reason why I am saying is inconclusive derives from the fact that I was shooting slow moving Fashion/Beauty and the miss shots were either near side eye and missed focus on some long rapid fire. Also bear in mind the weight of the D5 + 105 E vs 810 + 50 A.
To cut a long story short. the result as it stands is:
105 E - 753 shots = 6%
50 A - 1257 shots = 5%
Totally irrelevant numbers as depends on many variable the least being the shooting method and style.
Morale of the story: Can't tell the difference.
For the record the 50 A is no slouch and the 105 E shots DOP and Bokeh are better. Both lenses are very sharp..
Recently went to the Phare Cambodian Circus. I did most of my shooting with the 50 1.8G for AoV, but took a few shots with the 105 after the show ended.
Finally got to use the lens during Culture Night at my school. It was one of the most challenging lighting I've ever had to deal with, especially that many of the performances involved fast action. The D750 was amazing throughout the event, while the D610 struggled a lot.
I don't think I've been this excited about a lens since chubby, and the fact that the 105 1.4 is lightweight and 'small' makes it a life-long keeper for sure

Oooh now I don't know which to go for... this or the sigma 135? Someone help... I still have some saving up to do so I can wait for the sigma....
My guess is going to be the 105 is going to give better rendering and more accurate AF. But only time will tell.

I agree with you. When shooting the 105E and the 50A side by side. Not much in the sharpness but the render and Bokeh of the 105 E is noticeably better,
Let's wait and see what the 135A will be bring.
My issue is now the 135 focal is sitting between the excellent 105A and 200G. Which means it is either too short or too long.
I am sitting at the window.......(no sitting on the dock of the bay available)
