I've never read much good about the 70-300 DO. But it does demonstrate the size reduction they can achieve with a DO zoom. I'm sure Canon could build a high quality version with their years of development into DO since that 70-300 came out. The 400DO was never anyone's favourite either and yet the MKII is phenomenal!!

All this talk (good talk mind you) about DO lenses had me googling the 70-300DO.
Thoughts on it for the M5......no wait this is an Oly thread, nevermind.
For mFT I'm really not hungering for anything new, just to do better with what I've got.
One thing I don't have currently and for the foreseeable future is any kind of decent weather. First
camera manufacturer to bottle that wins me over
Yup ... and I believe Canon is working on a 600 DO lens that will sell for maybe 4x the price of the Oly 300 PRO and still be bigger and heavier!

That definitely should get me interested in Canon stuff!
Not interested.... until they bring out an 800/5.6 to replace my new 400/5.6 L USM
Just picked up a like new 2015 model to replace my 2012 model*, and it is even better than the "old" one; slightly sharper and has better contrast. I figure it must be better aligned. It is just as clean and sharp as the 100-400 II I tested a few weeks ago, though the new zoom does have less CA away from the center of the frame.
* So it cost me all of €50 to shoot perhaps 50,000 shots with that lens over three years. Hard to beat that...

Yep, I've had mine pre-ordered since 2015....still waiting for Canon to move past the prototype they showed back then. If you want FF sensor coverage then you pay FF coverage price....if you are happy with M43 sensors for your work then you are able to save a tonne on weight and price. I can't even stand the D500's APSC sensor (arguably the best out there) some of the time so I've divested almost everything other than FF....but that is me....everyone has to work out what they are happy with.

Four times the price would be cheap. I think it will be at least six times the price, if not more.
As much as I love my 400DOii the 600DOBR will be heavier, and sad reality is that my days of toting the heavies has a finite future.....so no dreams there.
After we make eye contact he flew, but only 30ish feet from one pole to another, shame his face is a bit shadowed but is what it is. Still I liked his pose-

Yes it will be at least 5x the $2500 and 6x or more is probably more likely. I'm going to have to sell 600II and maybe 200-400 to be able to buy it......that may be too much to give up.....time will tell.....love how we are discussing what will be the most expensive (current) Canon lens in an Olympus thread. I will shut up now and keep enjoying the Olympus discussion. I should have the opportunity to borrow this camera this spring and then I will be able to give my honest opinion on how it fairs compared to the 1, 5 and 7 series from Canon.
5-6x the price of the 300 PRO is just insane ... but I will shut up now too!
