I thought that I read just a while ago that the pricing was announced - and that it is going to go for $2000.00 bucks.

Is that true??

Why don't you try reading the previous posts, where that has already been confirmed

Why don't you try pausing for the rather obvious concept? I didn't see where it was confirmed else-where. Thus my post.

I'm curious about a review by Thom Hogan. He's not one of those that considers every new product to be awesome, unlike many review/clickbaith sites, so common today.

I also consider ming Theins reviews thorough and honest. He is not a platform based fanboy, simply a man with opinions, but he backs them up well and does not do glowing reviews as a matter of course.

I read his, a day or two ago, and it really impressed me, how good he considers the Mkii to be.

However, the price ... well I have to get a bit of time for a bit of perspective first, but at first exposure to the shock of the price increase, I thought "no way" no matter if it all that and some more.

Perhaps with time, I'll get more comfortable with the Leica pricing? Or wait a year and a half and get it at 50%, perhaps, if it is really, really, really, special.

Ming's Review

I'm curious about bobbytan's viewpoint, Bobby. You've been very enthusiastic about this camera. Does the price dampen your enthusiasm, did you expect it, or is it just the new cost of business?

What do you mean, where? The link shows his updated review that he wrote on Nov. 1 during his plane flight back to the U.S. from Iceland.

It's a pretty puffy piece, and once again no continuous autofocus assessment. Still it looks like a worthy upgrade.

See my post at the top of this page. I had expected the price to be $1,699 ... so yes, I am disappointed with the pricing BUT if it lives up to its hype and C-AF/tracking is as good as say the 7D Mk II then the price is somewhat justified.

I seem to be missing things all over the place today. I'm starting to see it a bit more "charitably" the price I mean. I guess it takes a while to get used to a new plateu.

Mostly I'm not all that interested in the strengths of the Em-2 (and we call it that? ) because what it addresses is no longer my style but I sure do enjoy some of "yesterday's" conventional wisdoms being turned on their head. This model, if it lives up to the billing, will end the "mirrorless" is slow chant, I think. (and hope)

For my personal prefferences I'm pretty impressed by Ming Thein's rave about how fantastic the new battery life is as well as the fact of the body being larger. That should mate it well to the new lenses and the zooms.

But is it $2,000 bucks worth of goodness, for me? That's a tough one. A bit more lunch money than I was expecting, but a lot more improvements than I was even ever wishing for. One way or another, M43 will surely gain a new level of respect even by those for whom it's not the "thing".

If it does a great job in C-AF/tracking - say at least as good as the Canon 7D II - it will be a big hit with sports and wildlife photographers ... as the Olympus 40-150/2.8 and 300/4 PRO lenses are exceptional - and very hand-holdable with amazing optics. And their IBIS is the best - much better than Panasonic or Sony.

Well after thinking about it, trying to understand how Olympus thinks it can get away with this insane price hike, forget it. No, I'm not going to get reamed. Some companies are simply stupid and this shows Olympus management completely out of touch with the realities of the market-place.

I've been a supporter of four-thirds since 2004, and overlooked how they abandoned us, but this is it for me. Now Olympus officials have lost track of market reality. In any case, this is my last post here. Will be getting out of the system completely. Don't worry, I won't let the door hit me on the way out. I'll simply be glad to BE out.

Ah, the m43 system was getting too close to the phone in quality anyways, with none of the advantages.

Why the big deal about a flagship product costing a fair amount of money ?

Look at the A7rII, the Nikon D4, etc

You can get a very nice Olympus EM10 mkII for $450 if your on a budget, willing to spend a little more, the very nice EM5 mkII for under a grand. Stretch a little further and there is the Pen-F.

Some people act the one and only camera Olympus makes is the EM1 mkII and expects ALL photographers to buy it.

Its a high end flagship product that isn't going to appeal to the masses needs or budget.

Essentially this is like being pissed at Chevy because a new Corvette is more than most can afford/want to spend, even though Chevy had a full range of cars to suit most budgets.

Exactly. A lot of people upset with the price seem to be upset with Olympus wanting to charge a premium price for a premium product. Those that don't want to pay the high price can simply wait until it's within their price range or just don't buy it period. They will say that there's not enough IQ improvements which isn't really a fault of Olympus just that m4/3 IQ seems to have hit a plateau. Once we accept that it's not going to hit 15 stops or DR, it's not going to get you the same DoF as FF, and it's not going to give you 4 stops of better low light we can start to understand the other improvements under the hood like the better AF, the cinema 4K at 237 MBps, the better controls.

If you have a m4/3 camera already like the E-M1, E-M5 2 or the E-M10, it's still a great camera and still takes great photos. That's not going to change. If you want to swap systems for a solid reason then more power to you. If you want to swap systems because you're upset at pricing, you're only hurting yourself and you'll most likely lose money in the swap and the system you swap to might not be as enjoyable to shoot with. But hey, it's your money.

I for one am not complaining about the pricing. I just chose to improve my Sony allotment over my mFT thinking (my bad) the rumors were going to pan out that the price point was going to be lower. When I think about it the price seems quite fair for the most powerful mFT body ever. Speaking of swapping, well not being able to swap is one of my big problems!
