Just talking out loud here but I just noticed a pretty significant reduction in sharpness in my photos when posted here via Flickr. I'm sure it's been discussed before but I just realized it. Photos I post look much softer than when viewed directly on Flickr. What a shame.
Visited the Big Island and tried to find the 'Io (Hawaiian hawk) and Pueo (Hawaiian owl) in flight. Both are endemic to Hawaii and endangered. The 'Io is only on the Big Island and no longer found on the other islands. Very sad. To make a long story short, this was a a very difficult endeavor and my hat is off to all those great BIF photographers posting amazing images. I was Incredibly fortunate to see an 'Io but managed to clip the wing in my shot. The Pueo are more abundant but not easy to capture in flight. Anyway, here are a couple of shots with the Nikon D500 and 200-500mm combo. Somewhat heeavy crops. Aloha.

Here are several images from the Methow Valley Rodeo, held over the Memorial Day weekend. These images were taken with the Nikon D500 and the Nikkor 80-400mm VR2 lens. FWIW, I used the D5 on Saturday and the D500 on Sunday (with the same lens both days). I think I had about 10 shots out of focus on the first day, and about 30 shots out of focus on the second day. The second day was very windy, with dust flying around much of the time. That might explain the slight focus issues on the second day. Of course, user error could also be the reason - perhaps I was too wind-blown the second day! Either way, I was very happy with the performance of both cameras. I had not originally planned to buy the D500, but now I am really glad to have it! And the rodeo was a blast!
