Another day, another Mono Lake image.
The dusk colors only came towards the end. It was work the wait.
Taken with the FE 24-70/2.8 GM
The Exif is showing f/14, 10 seconds but that was only done for DOF towards the foreground rocks. I also used the longer exposure to smooth out the waters.
The main exposure for the mountains and the sky was f/9 and 4 seconds.

Nice shot Fred! It is very nice to see something more original from here. This gives me a very peaceful feeling, especially the mountains and wonderful sky!
Anyone who knows me knows I am not a Mono Lake fan! On another forum once we started a thread/post where everyone (just out of pure humor - tongue in cheek ranting and raving) shared where they would never go and shoot... Mono was my place. But after seeing an insanely beautiful image by photographer friend Alex Noriega last year from here, I may have changed my mind... Then seeing peaceful images like this help sway me as well...

Thanks Mark! I think that this place is so distinctive, it's harder get something slightly different from what's out there.
Like other known locations, there are so many possible compositions and lighting but I like to tell myself that perhaps there is a chance of capturing something new. That's what's motivates me to shoot at this location and many others.
Take care,

Beautiful Fred! The foreground and especially those clouds are amazing.
Thanks Gary. I was waiting there hopelessly for some colors as it was an overcast afternoon. Right after sunset towards dusk time, the colors showed up. Lucky!
awesome shot, as always. It is inspirational to see a new take on a classic location excuted so well. Even though I KNOW it is always good to wait PAST sunset, it is always easy to leave to soon, especially if travelling with non-photographers.
In any case, your perseverance yielded some magical light in this one!

Beautiful image. (Don't like the dark matt border but that's a minor point.)
Thanks Rajan,
You don't like this particular frame (color, shape) or frames in general for images presented on the web?
Let me know frames that you like and I may be able to make it available for FM members.

The sky feels... alive. I just love those clouds. Well done.
Thank you! The colors in the sky were changing very fast. I took about 5 shots and this is the only one with saturated colors on it.
Best,
Fred

Fred,
I meant the colour choice you made above. A lighter border would have worked very well, I think. (But I recognize these are functions of personal taste.) The options of frames you have are just fine.

I'm working on adding new frame options for the forum. I will let you know what you think before it's implemented. Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Fred,
I am really liking those clouds in this, Mono Lake can sure put on some cool cloud displays. Is there a footstep in the lower left?
Good job on sticking around and not packing it in early.
Jim
Mono Lake always surprises me. This was a very overcast day that turned out to great lighting.
I don't think it's a footstep but surely looks like one. Thanks for the tip. I will remove it.

Dang, that new GM lens is looking sharp. Nice shooting, Fred!
It's a great landscape lens. When coupled with the CV 15/4.5 III, it's all one would really need. Thanks Michele.

I live in Las Vegas, so this is not too far to get to, but I never have gone. I really need to get out here! Nice image Fred. That sky is amazing.
