An early pioneer was lost out there and broke his leg.
Those were the last words he uttered.
I thought he screamed out Ah-Shi-Sle and then there was a Pow!
As per "The Place Names of New Mexico" by Robert Hixson Julyan, Ah-Shi-Sie-Pah is a Navajo name meaning "gray silt". While we are at it Bisti is Navajo for "badlands" and De-Na-Zin means "standing cranes". Evidently petroglyphs of cranes have been found south of the Wilderness.
Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouraging comments! From what I've seen I think there is about a million compositions left out there that have yet to be posted!

Number one is very cool. I like it. Looks Jurassic. And actually, that formation in the back looks like a brontosaurus.
Craig - that was my thought as well. Seems to have the classic brontosaurus profile. I can see Fred Flintstone ending his shift as-he-sli-down the back of the brontosaurus and runs to his rock buggy !
Thanks again everybody for your comments and critiques! Dave

Hey Dave!
Great work here, these could look cool in BW as well, dont you think?
Andrey
Andrey - I don't always think in B/W but I did a quick PP in B/W. Not sure but I'll let you be the judge.

Fantastic images. Single shots or focus stacks?
Thanks! I do a lot of focus stacking but for this particular lens (Leica 16-18-21mm WATE) the focus range is so wide that I often just stop down and take a single frame - which is what I did in this case.
Thank you for taking the time to critique and comment! Dave

Wow ! Really, wow ! The location is fine in itself, you did a super job with the comps.
Bart
Thanks Bart - glad you like it. The location lends itself to gazillions of composition possibilities. However, those comps are also more challenging than expected. I call it a landscapers paradise!

Both are great. I liked #2 until I looked at #1 for a long time. Haha, Now #1 is my favorite. So much to discover.
Thanks for sharing.
Ken
Ken - that was kind of the way I looked at them as well. My initial sort on #1 was ranked lower until I put some PP work into it.

Very interesting landscape & great compositions. Reminds me a lot of Mungo National Park in the Australian outback actually.
If you have some pics please post them. I'm always fascinated with the land of Oz!
