Shots from this weekend-two from a proposed book cover series, two owner requested cat photos. Since these were taken with a Canon 80D, and a 55-250mm STM lens, everyone knows these cannot possibly be any good, since now the best crop camera is the Nikon D500

These shots of the hummingbird and raccoon demonstrate to ME why I do not wish to use the EF 100-400MM F 4.5-5.6 in tandem with an 80D-it looks much better on a FF to MY EYES, especially since you are using it with a 5DSr. The few pics I have seen with that lens coupled to an 80D TO MY EYES don't look any better than a 55-250 STM (not withstanding the extra reach with the 100-400). Despite a similar amount of pixel density on the target, Tony Northrup's "don't use a lens designed for FF on a crop, except for wildlife" seems to come into play here.

Oh, and BTW, nice photos of the hummingbird and raccoon!

That is one sweet lens. I could not believe the IQ for that price.

Many thanks, Pete! One of those "got there just at the right time" shots; morning fog was just burning off when the sun hit the little peninsula...

A few from the Tricentennary park. There was a mass track and field competition (?) that day but I tended to look elsewhere.

The annual ice out ritual. Every winter we leave the dock to freeze in the ice. Then when thick enough I disconnect the ramp. About 3 hrs ago the dock was at the edge of the ramp. You can't stop mother nature. If I didn't do that it would rip everything up. Over 20 years and it is still hanging in.

I love ice out. That opened up overnight and is melting at about 2 -3 ft per hr.

Needs more melting that way before i can connect it.

I landed up shooting just as JPEG with neutral picture style during Spring bird migration (hard to resist the unlimited buffer).

One pano, one HDR, one ordinary daylight photo and one dawn detail from Florence... I think I only have a couple of more worthy photos left, so this stream of photos will stop soon

Evening pano of Florence, unfortunately, again from Piazzale Michelangelo. 4 vertical photos made with 70-200 L. I also wanted to include Basilica di Santa Croce, but the pano always gave me some issues and was way too wide. Too bad about the cranes, they ruin the scene considerably...

Neptune fountain Dawn - I agonized over this for a good portion of Saturday evening and Sunday morning. I even toyed with using DPP4 for this, because the DLO delivered superior corner performance to my 16-35L II. In the end, I managed to get about 90% of "corner quality" in LR. 2 photos merged in Lightroom HDR.

And a cloudy day time photo of Duomo's Dome, from Palazzo Pitti Gardens. 70-200 L.

The second running shot looks pretty cool. If you composed it with plenty of negative space in either direction (I'd prefer the sky and almost no foreground), you'd have a World Press Photo material

Five shots from yesterday. This was the first time I'd ever photographed a male Hoody. They are rather rare up here but a few are seen each year and I was lucky to find a pair but not lucky with the terrible light and distance to the subject. Anyways, I hope I can find this pair again on my next outing in some better light. These images are all heavy crops from a 1920mm FOV.

On a positive note, the 80D did well with shadow pushing. In the first two shots the original RAW exposed for the whites had the rest of the bird basically black. These all have shadows raised to 100 in LR and a bit of +EC added on top of that.
