This is a male California Quail that I photographed in Victoria (ironic that he is native to where I live but I got this frame faraway from home).

1D-X 400 DO II + 1.4X III. ISO 1600. f/5.6 at 1/200sec. hand held from blind.

Fabulous as your work always is. Question, since you were in a blind why not use a tripod (though the results look like you didn't need one!)?

Hi Ted, I don't use a tripod as it is cumbersome and limiting for me, especially when traveling. Even in a blind, not being limited to a tripod is advantageous in that you can instantly point your lens at the right perch when there are multiple perches with multiple birds in action. The Canon 400 DO II is light enough that I can get sharp shots hand held down to about 1/50sec.
