p.2 #1 · Sigma 20mm f1.4 Art Astro Review

Well thats what matters after you have pored over the reviews and data!

The big question is could I have shot this just as well with a samyang 24mm which costs 2/3rds the price or less? Would it have been better or worse?

You know best, but I'd saw light, subject, comp, and technique would be much more important.

Oh yeah but that would be the same regardless of lens used.

Just like a Painting depends on the artist not the brush but part of the artists job is picking the best brush for the work. All that happens before you start creating.

Colours come mostly from airglow Or the stars natural colors.

You don't see this as in this low light you are only seeing UN black and white

Considerable coma in the corners for sure when wide open. Still very sharp all over at 1.4

Lovely lense. I bought it a couple of days ago. I hadn't had a good opportunity to shoot stars but the couple test shots were promising. Decent coma @ f2, 1,4 does show a fair amount but it's bearable. This is a lot better imo than for example Nikkor 17-35 or 24 1,4.

A sharp lense and very good construction. Focus ring is good, a lot better than what for example Nikkor af-s 20mm has. Not as good as that of Samyang 14mm.

The coma of Sigma 20/1.4 is quite good. Here is the coma of the Leica 19/2.8 II. I'd call it unacceptable.
