Just wondered if it's indicative of low dynamic range, as you say though in the hands of the photographer.
I've been shooting my D500 a bit in FL and I accidentally blew highlights on a series of shots (lots of blinkies on the back of the camera). I thought the pics were toast, but amazingly when I got them into LR I was able to recover them easily. This one seems to have loads of dynamic range. No worries at all. It seems as good or better than my D4 and more or less on par with my D810 (again, this is based on some LIMITED usage and observation, I haven't done any tests to confirm).

Nice one, great news hope to have one in my hands soon.

Have them send it to the local UPS store. You can then get it at your convenience.
Another option is using UPS MyChoice, which lets you release a package online that requires a signature. Some dealers override this feature though and still require a signature.
With over 1,000 online transactions in the last 12 yrs...I'm hip
to ALL the "tricks". Appreciate y'all lookin' out for me and I'll share
my favorite option:
Get your regular drivers cell #, if it's on his truck meet at an early
stop. As fate would have it, the D500's on the 2nd truck to boondock
Peralta. He comes at ~2:30 and I'll have a Gatorade waitin' for him.

My favorite option is driving around town looking for either of the two UPS trucks that service my area. One of the benefits of living in a very small city

I think the auto AF tune is very sensitive, that's why you get that it failed. I tried it 15 times and only got it to work 3 times. I think when I go to touch the buttons it must go out of focus or something and it fails. The 3 times i did get it to work on my 200-500 at 500 I got -9 , -1, and -5. So I just kept it at -5.
I agree with you about the sensitivity to movement when you touch the buttons. I had the same issue when I first tried it. The next day I went back with a better target (Lens Align) and bright sunny, non-windy day and I got results the first time almost every time.
Folks on DPReview are saying the D500 menu/info/image review/etc are pretty laggy compared with the D300 (which seemed to be the pinnacle when it came to responsiveness compared do the D7000 series?). Any thoughts from people who already received there cameras vs other Nikons?

Yes, but no one has them in stock yet. It may be a couple of more weeks. I have one reserved at my camera store at same price as B&H.
Amazon will honor the price if you order one and they are back-ordered. Or if you can get a different store to price match Amazon that would be just as good.

My guy calls me too. I usually tell him to take the signature stuff to the ups 2 miles away.
FedEx on the other hand has their store 30 miles and won't leave a package with a neighbor or call me.
Exif: 1/640 Sec. @ f/5.6, ISO 6400, 300mm f/4 PF + 1.4 TC II. Minimal processing, just some quick noise reduction performed in LR, further refined in PS. Coming from a D300s, I am extremely happy with the quality at ISO 6400, even 12,800 doesn't look horrible.

I haven't noticed any lag at all with mine. Very snappy, just as fast or faster than my D810. Just curious, were the people on DPreview shooting with SD or with XQD cards?
Spent the day shooting my D500, and loving every minutes of it (enhanced by the fact that I also had the day off from work). It's an enjoyable camera to shoot, and the results are quite good.
