Beautiful shot, love the colour of the cliffs and its warm reflection against an icy cold scene!

Beautiful composition from the evergreens stair stepped right to left to the snowy stones leading you into the scene. I would normally be begging for a wider view but I think in this case the balance is right where you shot it!
Very nice!

Hi Fred,

I do like your intimate impressionistic image in Yosemite Valley, combining the Merced River with a touch of reflection, frosted trees and a colorful granite background, which gives to me a sense of something similar that Ansel Adams would have captured in color. A small scene sometimes can be big in its impact on the viewer.
Happy New Year!

Bob

Thanks for the critique Bob. Whenever the sky is not cooperating, I take it as an opportunity to come up with something different. What really counts for me is the experience and Yosemite never disappoints.
Take care,
Fred

Great image. The colors on the rock remind me of the rock behind Bridal Veil when it lights up. Beautiful contrast with the white bushes.

Fred,
Love this, but you stole my shot
Seriously, I was there a week ago & noted the color on the cliff faces against the flocked trees.
I was trying to frame it with limited FL choices with my film kit/primes

This captures perfectly what I saw. Very nice

Thanks for posting

Dan

That's too funny Dan!
I struggled with the FL choice for this scene as well. I had a 16-35/4, RX1RII (35mm) and a Loxia 50/2.
I tried the Loxia first but wanted something a wider and 35mm was perfect as anything wider seemed to add to many elements to the scene. Thanks for your comment!

Love the color and ice in the water. This Florida boy doesn't see that very often.

That's true but in Florida you always have those amazing skies!

Sounds like too many choices
My choices were a "different" complexity.
I have two film MF kits, An RZ67 w/50mm & 180mm, A Mamiya 7 w/65mm & 80mm.
BUT, the RZ had the color film. The Mamiya 7 with 80mm would have been better but still had a half roll of B&W.
I should have just shot with the RZ/50mm and cropped the result!
Sometimes it's better to limit the choices
Dan

Nice! Explain the 64 shots. We're those stacked or used for a pano-like image?

I took 64 shots and blended them in PS using image stack "mean". It replaces a 6-stop ND filter.

Absolutely stunning image! This would work even vertical with the right cropped.

Thanks!
I have a portrait orientation version but the cloudless skies made it a bit unbalanced.

Very nice Fred. I'm headed up Thursday and will give your method a shot (or many as the case maybe).

Jim,
You could get dramatic skies on Friday right after the snow storm. Good luck!!!

Thanks Greg,
I have a tendency to always go wide as well. It's a struggle for me to shoot at 35mm, that is why I prefer shooting with primes. If I have my 16-35/4 zoom, it stays glued on the wider end of it.

This photo has great depth. So many layers: the rocks, trees with snow, trees without snow, then the mountain. Congrats Fred!

Wow Dan, you have your hands full. I usually carry my tiny RX1RII. It’s a powerful full frame camera with a fixed 35/2 lens but some people sometimes perceive it as a point and shoot.

Outstanding image.

Makes me realize how much I have yet to learn as a photographer, I might come across a similar scene but I would never had the patience/wherewithal to take 64 shots to begin with and/or combine them in post-processing to achieve this result. Impressive.
