While this isn't my most technically sound shot of the first quarter, it's certainly one of my favorites. I was looking for a snowy, and having no luck at all. I nearly stepped on this one without seeing it, before he flew off, scaring the hell out of me. I managed to fire off a few frames before it settled out of view once again.
Great shots everyone. This was my first year shooting birds and I want to say thanks for the pointers, encouragement and great examples I have found here. Here's my two favorites from the first half of the year.
For my once a year photo adventure this year I went to Glacier NP in Montana, got lucky with the moose putting on a pretty good show at Fishercap Lake.
Amazing photos by everyone so far. I will share my Apr-Jun shot now as I will be busy and travelling over the next few days.
This shot was of the Arctic Terns doing their courtship when the male brings the female small fish presents. It was fun to watch as they do it over and over again so lots of chances to get a picture.
What wonderful photos here, thank you for hosting Geoff. Had limited time and opportunities in 2015 - best 2 from Q1 only from walks in our neighborhood greenbelt. This a a fairly low use trail and most birds are timid. I try to go for walk 1-3 times / week, take camera often and during the year am able to barely get 1-2 clear shots of these elusive guys. I can spot the owls with a high degree of of probability (25% plus of times) but getting a clean shot requires plenty of luck to compensate for limited skill. Mr Hawk is even more shy. I have only been able to find him on a photograph-able perch 1-2 times in the year, on this particular occasion, I was able to spot him about 60 yards away and slowly creep in during late evening. He posed for a good 2:31 mins on perch.
