But no shot is worth a life (well maybe if it helps create awareness that ends up saving lives). It was a huge risk going out there in those conditions. Specially when you were not actually surprised or caught of guard by the conditions. Glad you made it out ok and with a great shot no less.
Photos like this are what sets FredMiranda apart from all other photography forums on the web.
Thanks for sharing the photo AND the story Mark!
Great compliment and I appreciate it and agree. Great work on this forum!

Thank you. As I mentioned above, everyone has to weigh the risk to benefit ratio for themselves. I do not advocate chasing lighting, and we do not get this close on my group photography workshops. But for me, it was worth it. This is my full livelihood and I have to take some risks to get cutting edge imagery from time to time. As I mentioned to Jim above, my dad did the same climbing world class mountains his whole life and is still climbing at 78. He has just finished a book about it all and is even getting interviewed on a show on NBC. He was a very calculated risk taker and lived an extraordinary life. I hope to continue to do the same.

is this image processed using the luminosity masks technique?
Thank you. NO.
I have my own unique ways of dealing with masking in Photoshop and have many Instructional Video Tutorials on my website for anyone interested in my unique approach to post processing. Occasionally I make my own custom 16 bit masks, when necessary, but it is not usual.

I've been doing this for 30+ years; this is an amazing shot for sure!
If you were to leave this earth, what better way to go than while you were doing the thing you love to do.
Take care, as we all want to see more images from you.
That is how I feel, thank you.

Well deserved win. I really need to look at your PP flow as well since this DR still blows me away. Congratulations!
Thank you. Check out the Video Tutorials on my Website if you want. There are 7 of them, and "MASTERING LIGHTROOM RAW" will be out in a couple of weeks.
An absolute stunner. There is so much going on in that picture.
I have to disagree with the warning about McDonalds. That blend which is McDonalds food may have saved you from a direct lightning strike. And I admire your courage in a befuddled state.
Incredible scene, Mark; I only wish I could have been there too! Without nearly getting struck by lightning, of course.
I posted this on FB but I don't think that was the proper place for it:
What, if any, sort of color grading did you do on the cool and warm spots in the image? The sky portions look fantastic with the contrast between cool and warm, however the earth portions look a bit too "colored". Not sure if that's just how amazing the scene was, or if it was brushed in.
