Thank you all for your concern. The ball is exactly where it was when I took the shot. The boy was not hit by the ball. Memory serves me correctly, the ball was moving from right to left.

I would think that that it was not the focus for the softness on the ball but the movement of the ball Pretty sure the rest of the image was stationary

Please remember the focus in on the player, the ball is in the foreground 4-6 inches. At f3.2 the ball will be a tad out of focus. No add the ball is moving.
