p.1 #1 · Night Lights .. Aurora Yellowknife Canada NWT
I just returned form a few amazing nights way up north in Yellowknife of NWT, Canada about 250 miles from the arctic circle. This is my 3rd trip up there and by far my best . Each night the displays lasted for several hours. I chose this time of the year because the lakes are still not frozen which offered oppurtunity for using reflections for my FG. These are shot at Big Beaver ponds along the Ingram Trail . One night offered some clouds for backlighting and fog rising off the lake. On the tech end of this for those who may be interested I used my Canon 5DIII with a16-35 Mk II . The Canon 5DIII preforms extremely well at high ISO to manage the noise, the 16-35 prefocused and set at 2.8 . most of the exposures were shot at 2000-3200 ISO with varying exposure times to achive proper histograms ( A big key to shooting aurora) I used some luminance noise reduction in LR in post to further control the noise. An excellent resource was a book written by a photographer from Fairbanks Alaska Patrick Enders "How to shoot the Norther Lights" I have read it many times and it was extremely helpful. I shot for Hours and hours and have lots of images to share so here are the first ones and more to come. I hope you enjoy these all comments welcome and thanks for viewing, regards, Dean

Wow, great photos! hard to pick a favorite out of that set, but I would probably go with number 3. I kind of like the more streamlined look to it. Nice work.

Love #3. The lines in the reflection are great. The illuminated petals on the lake are appealing. Well done. It must have been such a spectacular experience.

Dean: Just got back from our shooting weekend in the Adirondacks. So I had this chance to see these great images on something larger than your iPhone. They are even more stunning larger. Some of the best I have ever seen. Great Job.
