Understood, and that's really the reason to consider petal removal. But in those cases where you don't want filtration, you suddenly have no good hood option that I'm aware of.
Don't want to hijack the thread. I've been able to suffice with screw in filters for my ZE 15, but if at some point I want to move past that, I have to consider getting the lens switched by Zeiss. And then either live with no hood solution or find something workable.

I would live without the hood and use the Lee 100mm push-on filter holder with it. It's the only Lee filter that works with this lens after the hood removal. Lee says that with one (1) slot, it will not cause vignetting but that may be all you need for your ND and Grad needs. http://www.leefilters.com/index.php/camera-directory/camera-dir-list/category/push-on-filter-holder
Lee also has a 4x4" Circular Polarizer Glass Filter to use with it.
The one linked above (Century wide angle adapter) is not really wide angle and will vignette really bad.
Tim, here me out I shot the Zeiss 15 and it's a really nice lens but if I may suggest take a look at a VC 15mm version III. I have to say if it's not real close I would be shocked. Besides I know someone that cuts hoods off. Lol
I did a pretty good job . I'm waiting on my 58-67 step ring and I'll post my results. But seriously the VC 15 may just surprise you. Try renting it
If you cut the petals off you still have the screw threads on the Zeiss for a hood. I buy cheap metal hoods on eBay for all my lenses. I bet there is a 95mm out there

Guy's comments that got you all hot and bothered were actually quite tame for him.
I have usable screw in ND and CPL+ND solutions, so it would just be for a grad. Good to know it would only support one filter, thanks Fred.

This is water under the bridge for both of us (I think Guy?), so I think we're good unless you want to stir the pot...

The hood is just stupid and ineffective. Fred sent his to SK Grimes I'm going to risk a 700 dollar lens. Looks like I will own it forever. Lol
Please keep us updated about this process! I am also finding the hood on the CV 21/1.8 sort of annoying. Not sure why Cosina thinks that fixed hoods are so beneficial - the CV 35/1.2 II has no fixed hood fortunately. Best I can do is using a circular ND filter with this 21/1.8 lens - fortunately it is not such a big deal since the DR of the A7R is so good that I don't need to use my graduated ND filters as I had to do it formerly with my Canon 5D MkII and MkIII.

Thanks Guy, I've thought about the new CV 15 III. I have the FE 16-35 for when I want to be more portable, and I'm really happy with the ZE 15. But that CV 15 is soooo dang small it is very interesting.
I think I'm going to still hold off with doing anything with the hood. It's quite a bit of money to have Zeiss remove the petals, and I wouldn't take the saw route on this lens. :-) I'm going to limp along with my current filter solution, it only becomes a problem if I want to use a grad.

Yea we are good to go. No issues at all. I also like to have fun, I can't take all this stuff too serious or else i will really be wearing the white jacket

I did a okay job , certainly could not sell it unless someone wants it like this but still be cheap because I DID IT.
The Leica 19mm no one can see it but the Zeiss 15mm that cut is in your face. If you ever do decide to do it than a final step would be rent the VC 15 first and see if it is worth it. The VC 15mm is a freaking gem. Everyone that bought one is really enjoying it. Im waiting for Freds to come back from SK Grimes and see how he likes the job they did. Mine is good and the good news the 58 to 67 step up will hide my cutting and grindingi. That comes tomorrow so once I get that Ill post some images.
Bottom line though is you do have some options to work with and that is always good.

I will . I used a Dremel with a cutting wheel, worked pretty good.

Question for the morning. Folks that are seeing posterization in there files . What do you have your color space set for in camera. You have two choices SRGB and Adobe RGB. Reason I ask is if your SRGB I'm wondering if Sony is converting the raws in camera or its only going after the Jpegs in camera. I always set it to Abobe RGB and normally this is for in camera Jpegs but one wonders if Sony is tagging the raws SRGB and we don't know it. Theory only it's coming in SRGB the raws but when you import it's converting to your raw processing working color space and we simply do not know that. This would be bad as your shooting in a smaller color space than importing into a larger one and your import is adding color data to fill up the wider color space. Question is is Sony actually cooking the raws into the SRGB space when that is set. How can we figure that out?
This is just a thought. I have no proof of anything but just thinking out loud.

Just catching up on this thread . . . Tim, you know I had the same Zeiss 15/2.8 and loved it! It was just so damn big on the A7 series. So, I tried the CV15 III and love it. I didn't feel like I was missing a whole lot image wise when I made the change but I gave up a whole lot of size. Granted, I may not pixel peep to the extent of others but I'm very happy with the switch to the CV.

Given Sony is compressing there raws as no one else is doing are we just assuming that color space setting in camera is for JPEG only. I mean that's how it should be but who knows what Sony is thinking here or doing.

That was kind of where I was going Bob and glad you responded the VC15 is a amazing little lens on these A7 bodies. Version III that is. I really love mine and I remember a test that even the Samyang 14 outside its severe distortion was even pretty close the the Zeiss.
Sorry we are jumping around a little with OT stuff. I know happens all the time. Lol
