Thanks again everyone!
After considering it overnight, and reviewing my images from that day, I have decided to add one more wider shot, a 24mm versus the original 45mm. Hopefully it's not too redundant, and can be enjoyed simply for the nice landscape I feel it is.
Just pretend you're in a raft or hot air balloon drifting down river...
And there's a small herd of desert bighorns on the left...

Both versions are very nice, such a peaceful scene. I like your choice to shoot at the same level as the bench above the river, creating a kind of artificial horizon that is parallel to the top of the canyon as well as the surface of the water.

Hey Craig,
The 24mm version is nice as it lets us see more to the right. It's a great shot in it's own right, but I still like your original vision the best with the 45mm shot.

Thanks guys!
The first one was my first/best choice. That's why I posted it first! And I felt it had better light. I feel it draws you deeper into that part of the canyon too. The second almost gives away too many secrets. Still, I had both, and again thought "Why not?" So I posted it. To me, the comparison shows that wider is not always better (in my mind).

That is why there are so many different interpretations of images Craig!.....It all boils down to what YOU like! They are both excellant images and bring to me different elements for different reasons. I like sky in compositions like this..gives depth, scale to MY vision. But that is not to infer at all that 1 image, in this case, is better to you than the other..just what I visually like.
Great work!
Dan

The detail that is afforded in the first image by the narrower field of view is really nice. Great textures and a lot for the eyes to look at...it does feel tight at the top...
The second has a very different feel to it, I like it equally, but think that the bottom 1/3 or so, could be cropped out to make it a wider image that focuses on the textures, the great light and gets to include those wispy clouds.

Both are beautiful photographs with just the right amount of processing to bring out the beauty of the image but not over sharpened or over saturated. Very skillful and tasteful composition and capture. They are an inspiration to try to achieve the same level photographic artistry. BTW, the first is my favorite.

Craig is an inspiration for some of us not to get so locked in to 14mm. I hardly ever shoot at less then that, but Craig shows the value of pulling out other lenses from time to time also.
