This lens has a lot of spherical aberration wide open that only increases at near distances. Using it with a close focus adapter will only increase this.
My suggestion is not to obsess over absolute sharpness with this lens. It can have nice drawing when looking at the overall image, but it won't necessarily hold up to the same scrutiny as sharper lenses.
Absolutely, it is what it is. It's like my 35/1.4 SC CV.
I don't sniff mine. I print them. That can also be a useful exercise (unless you genuinely do nothing with you images, tat which point I'd suggest shutting shop and selling the lot, maybe taking up golf or something else)
Except for the FLE this was the best small RF 35 on the A7r, for mysterious reasons. Anyway this lens has been extensively deconstructed by many and the general feeling seems: not as good WO as the original v1 35/1.4 Leitz (i thought this was wrong at first, but now I have to concur), which is to say by modern standards, not good. Usable though, uncropped. Big improvement by f/2, and the lens is quite respectable at 5.6 and f/8, except for the distortion.
