p.1 #1 · Evening, Night, Morning - Mount Assiniboine
I just got back from a trip into Mount Assiniboine. On the first night I decided I wanted to try a bit higher than I normally do - and some night shooting - so I hiked up with my tent and sleeping bag to the higher Nublet.
For an old guy like me, carrying the 5dsr and 3 lens and tripod and tent and water, and sleeping bag was an ordeal. Puff, puff.... I set up my tent on a sloping meadow with lots of nice rocks for my pillow in the blowing wind. I shot for a bit at 9PM and then at 2pm and then almost slept in on my 6am opportunity. I am getting old. Then my son arrived from the campground to cook coffee and we hiked all the way up to the peak but by then the light was not worth while to show you.
The attached are 3 photos. I have not gone through all of them yet, but was excited enough to process and post a few.

Well shot!
I like the first image with the grass in the foreground
as I belief it ties the picture together nicely.
Looks as if it was worth the climb!

The sunrise lighting is more dramatic, but I prefer the clouds and more even lighting in the first image. All are well worth your effort. It's tough getting old.

Cheryle Sytsma: It was worth the climb as always. It is a fantastic place. My favorite in the world so far. Glad you like the first shot. I think it needs a bit more post processing with more contrast when I see it now. Much appreciated. Scott
wlpelzmann: Getting older is only better than the alternative Glad you like the effort with the first and last. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
Chaz: Thats a great idea and a great complement - triptych on my wall. Much appreciated. Scott

Tom Nevesely: It is about 7km (5 miles)from the campground to the peak and 700meters (2400'). The nublet is about 1/2 way there. A good hiker would take 2 hours comfortably however if you are from near the ocean remember you are hiking at 8000' so add an hour. 4 hours to the peak at 9000'. I actually like the spot at the end of the nub where the trees start better - which is only 1 hour or so but requires stitching or 11mm. Glad you like the evening and AM - thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
harland: Glad you like 3. The light was with me on this trip - unlike the time we were snowed in our tents when I went with you. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott
canadajim: Glad you like 3. Thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. Scott

Markus L: Thanks - I am glad you like 1. Aug 14 is new moon!!!! PM sent. - Scott
kwilliam8: Thanks - I am glad you like the night shot. I re-learned that taking a new camera (5dsr after using the a7r for 2 years for 36mpx) and shooting in the dark yields less than stellar work. I also learned that hiking with 60lbs of stuff up 400 meters of elevation gain in the near dark and setting up a tent on a slope where I was worried continuously about rolling something off the cliff made me too conservative. So it good to know someone liked the effort of the night shot. I could have just walked up and down at night and then again in the morning. Plus I had a quarter moon rise. Thanks for the encouragement.
