p.5 #1 · RX1/RX1II/RX1III + Sony WA converter (SEL075UWC)

Is it worth it? For those who have made the mod, do you find that you use the converter much or does it defeat the purpose of the rx1? The converter weights a bit and I'm just wondering if it's something I'll end up leaving at home. The rx1 is known for its IQ, does the converter turn this special lens until an ordinary one?
When I'm not using mine, it's carried in a small belt pouch, along with my batteries, filters, cable release, lens cleaning cloth, etc. The pouch (Manfrotto Nano VI) is quite unobtrusive in use, so I don't find it a burden to carry around at all.

Performance-wise, though, it's probably not worth it if it will be used on an RX1RII, because the extra resolution is more revealing of its flaws, as Fred has noted and my brief time with one confirmed.
When used on an original RX1, however, the flaws are much less obvious hence I find it much more useful. That said, I probably don't use it for even 10% of the photos I take, but it's nice to have it available when I need it. YMMV...

Do you guys think that a lens hood could actually damage the RX1 lens?
The lens hood is connected the same way the converter is, directly to the inner, moving lens barrel. When I pull my RX1 out of my should bag, I noticed that the lens hood causes some pressure on this barrel. Without a lens hood, this pressure would not be there. So, what is your opinion on that?

I've just looked carefully at my RX1 and while it's true that the hood mounts to an internal bayonet instead of an external one, that part of the lens neither rotates nor moves.
As such, I wouldn't be too concerned about a lens hood causing any damage to it. Well, at least the OEM lens hood, anyway, as I suppose some metal aftermarket ones could potentially cause some damage in the event they're struck hard, because they're more likely to absorb the force of the impact by bending, than to break and dissipate it.

I just weighted both:
Ricoh GW-3: 188g
Ricoh GW-3 + hood: 202g
Sony SEL075UWC (built-in hood): 265g
So, the Sony SEL075UWC is designed for full frame (better corners) and it's about 65 grams heavier than the Ricoh APS-C converter.
I still think it defeats the RX1R II's lightweight purpose but it's a nice alternative when only carrying the RX1 series for travel. You will have options for 24mm and 35mm FL.
In the case of the RX1RII, you can still crop it to 50mm and retain 18MP.

Honestly, I've tried the RICOH GW-3 on the RX1RII and didn't like the results (weak mid and extreme edge)
The SEL075UWC is a much better choice since it's designed for full frame.

From memory the Ricoh one for the GR also works - GW-3 I think and it is a straight screw on with no mods. I recall a thread and some tests - possibly about 3 years ago on here. I think it had its limitations - but is much smaller than the Sony. Of course it begs the question re its effects on that lovely Sonnar - which I no longer have.
