While digging through the archives for an old post of mine, I was reminded of Yakim by some replies he left me. Some of you remember him, newer members may not.
I wasnt around FM much during the time of his loss and was shocked when I finally heard about it. I was on hiatus due to a horrible time in my life when I had thought about doing the same as he.
I had spoken with Yakim numerous times here at FM. He was a helpful and kind man. He was always willing to help and offer insightful, positive, criticism. His responses to my posts inspired me more than anybody elses.
Not sure why I felt obligated to post this. I miss his presence here at FM tremendously though.
Aaron, thanks for posting and glad you are in a much better place now! It was truly a shock for all of us when we lost Yakim. He will be long missed for his talents and personality. He would want you to carry on, help as he helped, show kindness as he showed kindness and as always, he would wish you "Happy Shooting".
Does anyone know if a way was found to help his family?
I had heard at the time that the venture turned into a mess. Unfortunately.
Aaron D. - If you ever think your life is not worth living again, please get some help. My wife is a mental health NP and has had to deal with the aftermath of suicide on several occasions. It devastates whole families as well as friends and is, at it's root, the most selfish act a person can perform.
I was part of an initiative to donate funds from FM members to Yakim's estate, to benefit his survivors. As I recall (which I don't like to do), this was greatly complicated by national and international laws and policy, and so it didn't happen.
I was a frequent correspondent with Yakim. I miss him, and I regret his passing.

At the time I sent a modest amount of money to the widow's Paypal account. Within 2-3 months the amount was refunded with no explanation given.
It's been a while that Yakim has been gone, but certainly not forgotten.
Not forgotten at all, spoke to him once over the phone, I'd met him on photo.net actually, some 12 years ago and he was really surprised when I spoke to him in Hebrew as we'd always written in English to each other.
Its not quite the anniversary of his passing, but I felt the need to bring him up after seeing his replies in an old weekly entry I had made.
Due to coinciding of his tragic loss with my own emotional battle at the same time, I wont soon forget him.
