Images like this, and the promise of beautiful skies in July, keep me semi-sane in the bleak, baking months of May and June.
I was watching sporadic lightning in that area on lightning tracker, http://www.lightningmaps.org/ , with some envy. Any luck catching one of Zeus' efforts?
Thank you very much for such a positive response! I am so happy that this image is well received!

Sasha,
WOW!!! is correct. I totally agree that all the superlatives do apply. You did a terrific job. The mood that this photograph evokes is just unbelievable. Talk about Drama! Just curious, did you take any other shots? and if so how did they turn out? The Horseshoe Dam area has a lot of neat spots for interesting desert photogtaphy.
Jon, thank you, there are other shots as well, will be posting them soon. This rainbow was hanging there for at least an hour! That was my first visit to the Horseshoe Dam, and it was not planned. I was driving towards Bartlette Lake, and just decided to take a turn to check it out.

Marcy, thanks - and I did not plan anything, was just looking for wildflowers, and came back with this!

Craig, there was an intense lightning storm indeed. Did not stop to catch the lightning because my dog is freaked out by lightning, it leaves her shaking uncontrollably for hours.
Sasha.
Here is a bonus image: Lucy with wildflowers on a background:
Thank you very much for all of your kind comments, I am glad my efforts paid off!
That was ~12 vertical frames for the bottom, and then same for the top. Had to work fast because light was constantly changing.
Sasha,
Like every one here, I admire you image.
BTW, that is not a solstice.
"either of the two times a year when the sun is at its greatest distance from the celestial equator: about June 21, when the sun reaches its northernmost point on the celestial sphere, or about December 22, when it reaches its southernmost point.
Compare summer solstice, winter solstice." http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/solstice
