Really awesome sequence Dave!

Thanks BB,
I was driving around Ritch Grissom Wetlands when I first saw the GBH. I almost drove on until I noticed him shaking his head rather violently. It was then I noticed the snake. The first few shots were from my car with an 800mm lens. I decided to abandon the car and got as close as I could and hand holding a 400mm F5.6 was able to get shots 2 on to the end, all the while saying to myself that this is really cool!

Awesome. These guys eat anything. I once saw one eat catch and eat a live chipmunk! A once in a lifetime series for sure!
Thanks Dorian. I've seen these birds eat many different things. Watching sometimes, I wonder how they will swallow something so large. I've never seen one with a chipmunk but I sure can envision one eating one.

Wow!
This made my morning!
2 is a standout as so many have mentioned but the sequence as a whole is just great.
Fabulous photos that really captured the event from beginning to end.
That is amazing series, Dave. I love the first two photos. It would be nicer if you did not tell the whole story at the beginning, like the last two sentence. It would keep the story more exciting....
Great shot. We've got a couple heron on our lake, one that spends a good deal of time in the cove right behind our place. I'm amazed at the size of fish these guys can catch and swallow.
