I'd like to see more shots with the sun in the frame and some with city lights at night to see how the flare really is. If it's acceptable for that this lens might find it's way into my bag.
I will see if I can get some sun in the frame shots tomorrow, but can't guarantee anything. Won't be able to do city lights, though as it's not my lens and I will have to give it back in the afternoon.
Imagine that - I could carry a 300/4VR and 400/5.6 ED-AI in one lumbar pack!

Thanks so much for posting these. I've be waiting for such a lens for a long time. Encouraging to see examples that illustrate the possibilities. I'm also surprised to see it available this quickly after being announced. Anxiously awaiting its availability in US.
Excellent shots, you definitely know how to wrangle great results from an unfamiliar lens. Speaking of, is that your friend with the Sigma 150-600 Sport in the first photo?

Is anyone using the lens for semi-macro work and how short is the FL at MFD? What kind of magnification is possible with around 68mm of tubes?

I've used the original 300mm f/4 AF-S for a lot of semi-macro shots, mostly of bugs. With a PN-11, which was 52.5mm of extension, it gets about 1:2.
The new 300mm f/4 VR does a very similar reproduction ratio (0.27x for the original, 0.24x for the VR) so you should expect about the same.

Thank you and my pleasure to help out with these sample images.
Your images are very impressive, especially the wide open shots with a TC.
From looking at your jpegs, CA's appear to be controlled very well. Was that the case with the raw images as well?
Thank you very much for your lovely comments. CA is almost non existent, even though I put them through CA correction I couldn't really see a difference.

Thank you very much for your lovely comments, Lauchlan. It's actually the Tamron 150-600.

It seems all the pictures I have seen posted by you are fantastic, so I am waiting for some pictures taken with this lens by a normal photographer! Thanks for posting, this lens does look very inviting.
